Even calling it 'a combined ticket' is kind of sneaky.

It depends if it leads to the women demanding equal pay.

Re: Promoting Womens Sport - Why the Sneakiness?
Yup- well, it's a combined ticket, although we know which game will have been responsible for the majority of sales.

But my point is a decent amount of people have bothered to show up 'early' for it, so putting it on before the men's isn't a bad tactic to get people in and the football could do well to copy it.

I believe you get a free ticket for the women's match if you buy one for the men.

Re: Promoting Womens Sport - Why the Sneakiness?
To be fair, it's not rammed but there's a respectable crowd in at Edgbaston for the women's Hundred match, ahead of the men's later.

Exactly! I really don't see a downside in doing that as long as it's not in the depths of winter.

I’d go for that as well. It would be a bit like a support band or anyone remember when you used to get 2 films a short one before the main one. I liked that.

"If the product is sufficient for it to stand on its own 2 feet then let it find its own audience and grow organically"

That's what they are trying to instigate by offering cheaper tickets to women's sport when you purchase a full priced ticket for established men's sport.

There's nothing sneaky about it. Grow up.

Agree- sadly someone somewhere will see it as a slight and complain. It should be seen as a great opportunity to play in front of a potentially decent (for the women's game) crowd, grow awareness of the game and also for the players to be able to play in that stadium.

Whatever the aspirations for the women's game are there needs to be acceptance that it probably needs to be connected to help it grow and anyone too pig headed to realise that is probably cutting their nose off to spite their face.

With the Hundred, they've got the idea- the women's games will take place before the men's games on the same day in the same venues. I realise there are other economical reasons for this too, but that's the way to do it.

"Whether it was a friendly/practice match is moot."

I would disagree.

Did we currently judge our players based on their play at Mark Noble's testimonial? (We should have kept Adrian and put him in midfield then. )

That is the level of competitiveness we are talking.

If you are strolling about, getting a bit jogging in and mugging for the camera against some kids, that can't be an accurate judgement a number of years later, of the level of football you play.

Again not my thing, just a silly overused bit of evidence.

They'll lose money in beer sales, as everyone will plan to get there late.

Arsenal are playing Chelsea at the Emirates in a couple of weeks time. Women first then men. I’ll be there cos my daughter will be on Arsenal’s bench. Be interesting to see how many people turn up early as the ticket covers both games.

To be fair to womens tennis it is one sport that has enough profile & own sponsorship to stand on its own feet.
But the money they are taking from Grand Slams is disproportionate.

With the bbc they dont need any encouragement to go overboard on womens sport & other MINORITY & DIVERSE interests but they are hamstrung by a couple of things ..
Their Charter would require them to cater for all parts of society in broadcasting .... whether any woman is crying out for them to broadcast more womens sport (apart from those with vested interests) is MOOT
Also obviously they cover the sports they are granted like Wimbledon , Euros, football World Cup (MENS) and wouldnt be able to afford most Test cricket, Premier league or Champions League etc
This leaves them with sports that are cheap or free in terms of broadcasting fees ... most womens sport will come into that category

Flagship for the Lebanese?

There are a lot of women from Lebanon playing football now?

Don't disagree with any of that but, as I mentioned, someone will claim that the most important thing - more important that the game, even - is that the women's team is not the perennial "starter" but, for every other game, the "main course". That's only FAIR.

That may be the only way to actually get the message across - nobody left in the stadium after the men's game has finished.

I also suspect that most, if not all, women's teams would love the chance to play warm-up act for a few years while their game grows at it's own rate.

I was answering a question.

Whether it was a friendly/practice match is moot. To lose to a bunch of 14 year olds does demonstrate the physical differences if nothing else. I've seen the photos. I recall several of the boys are massive compared to the women.

I never realised that mate and makes sense. my point being is i personally would go there early to watch that but wouldn't if it was womens football

Crassus 3:40 Fri Jul 23
Re: Promoting Womens Sport - Why the Sneakiness?
The reality is that the attraction is less that the players are female and more so that the game is a flagship for the 'Lebanese'
It has become a cause celebre for wokedom and box ticking

No wonder that the historically typical football fan does not embrace it and that before the quality is assessed
